Job description

Reports to: Sports Director

Job Purpose: Makini School offers swimming programs for all ages and abilities and aims to foster a love of swimming and develop leadership skills in all our athletes. The Swimming Coach should be familiar with Learn-to-Swim levels/curriculum or other nationally recognized water safety/swim lesson curriculum and know how to use course materials effectively.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Endeavour to head the program of the Makini Swimming Team.
  2. Create experiences that enable athletes of all ages and abilities to participate in the sport of artistic swimming.
  3. Take up responsibility for on-deck coaching and program administration for novice and elite teams.
  4. Developing the annual training plan for all competitive teams and working collaboratively with the team coaches for beginners to develop the swimming training program (dryland and in-pool)
  5. Coordinating practice schedules and on-site supervision at dryland and pool practices.
  6. Coach at least one provincial competitive team and provide program oversight at all club practices.
  7. Attend all swimming galas both internal and external.
  8. Provide a minimum of two formal feedback opportunities to athletes throughout the season.
  9. Develop and monitor the team coach schedules and review and approve monthly timesheets.
  10. Mentor and guide team coaches, provide regular feedback, and complete an annual review.
  11. Co-ordinate and plan for timetabled swimming classes. 

Minimum requirements

Education & Experience
  • Competition Coach Certified (FINA Coaching Level 3 and above)
  • Lifesaving Certificate
  • TSC Certificate or License from the Ministry of Sports
  • Current Police Good Conduct Certificate
  • Computer proficiency (Swim Meet Manager)
  • Be a registered TSC member
