Job description

Reports to: School Librarian
 
Job Purpose: Support the libraries and perform related library services. Tasks include cataloguing, classifying, circulating, and maintaining library materials; and furnishing reference, bibliographical, and readers' advisory services. This is a seasonal internship to support the closing of the 2025-26 school year and the opening of the 2026-27 school year. 
 
Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Keep records of circulation and materials.
  2. Check books in and out of the library.
  3. Code, classify, and catalogue books, publications, films, audiovisual aids, and other library materials based on subject matter or standard library classification systems.
  4. Organize collections of books, publications, documents, audiovisual aids, and other reference materials for convenient access.
  5. Compile lists of overdue materials, and notify borrowers that their materials are overdue.
  6. Any other duty that may be assigned from time to time 

Minimum requirements

Education & Experience
  • A diploma in a related field
 
Skills, knowledge, abilities & values
  • Knowledge of the school curriculum as it affects the service the library provides
  • Knowledge of library science
  • Effective communication skills to be able to develop open and constructive relationships with a wide range of young people and staff
  • Able to work in a changing environment, be open to new ideas
  • Able to work as part of the school curriculum/resource support team
  • Ability to self-evaluate professional development needs and actively seek learning opportunities
  • Organised
